Günübirlik Edirne Tour
06:00 After meeting with your vehicle and guide at the designated departure point, we set off for Edirne, our frontier city.
09:00 Arrival in Edirne, the second capital of the Ottoman Empire and birthplace of Fatih Sultan Mehmet Han, followed by breakfast.
10:00 Visit to the Şükrü Paşa Monument, the fortifications, and the museum, where Edirne’s defender, who resisted far longer than the time allotted during the Balkan Wars, is honored. We then visit the Saray İçi area, where the historic Kırkpınar Oil Wrestling matches are held. Here we see the statues of our chief wrestlers and Kırkpınar aghas, the Fatih Bridge, the ruins of the Old Palace, and the Balkan War Martyrs’ Cemetery. We also visit the II. Bayezid Complex, a magnificent complex consisting of a mosque, medical madrasa, soup kitchen, hospital, bathhouse, kitchen, and food storages.
13:30 Lunch break. (Edirne-style fried liver or meatballs + soft drink)
14:30 Visit to Selimiye Mosque, which Mimar Sinan called “my masterpiece,” followed by free time at the Selimiye Arasta. (Free time in the 73-arched Arasta, which houses 124 shops, for souvenir shopping such as fruit soap and almond paste.) After the free time, we visit the Old Mosque, the oldest monumental structure surviving from the Ottoman era, and then the Üç Şerefeli Mosque. Afterward, crossing the Tunca and Meriç rivers, we arrive in the Karaağaç district, where we visit the Lozan Monument and the Train Station. Following our visit, we give free time along the Meriç River to watch the sunset and enjoy a hot tea or coffee. After the free time, we depart for Istanbul.
22:00 Arrival in Istanbul and farewell, with the wish to meet you again at another Mutlu Gezginler Turizm organization.
